The name of LG's new premium phone with a drip camera is 'Velvet'
LG Electronics has confirmed the brand name of its mass premium smartphone, which will be released next month, as LG VELVET.
LG Electronics will apply a separate brand that reflects the characteristics of its products instead of alphabet names such as the V series and the G series.
On Wednesday, LG Electronics unveiled the name and logo of its new flagship smartphone called "LG Velvet." LG Velvet is the next smartphone of LG Electronics, featuring a water drop camera and a bent left and right hand design.
LG Electronics chose "Velvet" as its product name to highlight its soft, flexible and smooth features and comfort when held in hand. It intends to intuitively convey luxurious images and refined designs reminiscent of velvet.
Starting with Velvet, LG Electronics is going to revise its brand strategy for smartphones. Instead of the product name G or V series, which had previously been adhered to, the flagship products will be applied with a separate brand that reflects trends in the market and intuitively shows the characteristics of the products.
The aim is to make it easier and more familiar to consumers, away from only showing uniform specifications improvement or timing of release with the "alphabet+numeric" naming. LG Electronics Inc. had a chocolate phone in the 2000s. It gained huge popularity with mobile phones that reflect the characteristics of products such as cookie phones and ice cream phones.
Instead of an induction design, LG Velvet features three lenses and flash arranged vertically, just as water drops fall on its rear camera. For the first time, it applied a "3D arc design" in which the front, left and right ends are curved. Its strategy is to make a winning move with a new product that emphasizes design in Smartphone markets that are similar in design.
Ma Chang-min, executive director of LG Electronics' MC Product Strategy Group, said, "While the recent smartphone trend is changing to emphasize individual tastes, sensibilities and designs, we will operate the brand from a customer-centered perspective," adding, "We will clearly establish the identity of LG smartphones to expand our empathy with customers."
