Self-lit OLED TV

Seven years after your first appearance in 2013.
LCD TV Next to Next TV
LG Display is the only panel manufacturer in the world.
Take this. 19 TV manufacturers around the world make TVs.

At the world's largest IT exhibition "CES 2020," which opened in Las Vegas in January, LG Electronics installed 200 OLED flexible displays on the ceiling of the entrance to the exhibition hall, followed by a series of video works that were installed by LG Electronics with 200 OLED flexible displays.

'OLED TV,' a TV that shines on its own, has surpassed 10 million units. It has been 7 years since large OLED panels were first mass-produced in 2013. Just as LCD TVs surpassed 10 million units in the 2000s and became the next TV following cathode-ray tube TVs, OLED TVs have become the next runner-up this time.
According to global market research firm Omdia (formerly IHS Markit) on the 2nd, shipments of OLED TV panels recorded 1 million units (accumulated as of February). Currently, South Korea's LG Display is the only one that produces OLED panels for TVs. It is the first time in seven years since LG Display started mass-production in January 2013. Starting with 35,000 OLED TV panels in 2013, the number of OLED TV panels has grown sharply every year, reaching 1.7 million in 2017, 2.9 million in 2018 and 3.3 million in 2019.

The portion of OLED TV panels in global TV panel sales also surpassed 11 percent in the fourth quarter of 2019. The figure will rise to 14 percent in 2020, and reach 23 percent and 25 percent in 2023 and 2025, respectively, Omnidia predicted.
OLED TVs are panels that emit light on their own every pixel. Current LCD panels have light sources on the back or sides that emit light, such as a ray of light. In other words, they put glass on the front and light it from the back to create a color. Without light sources on the back or sides, the color implementation of the LCD TV itself is not possible. In other words, it is difficult to implement completely black. On the other hand, OLED TVs can produce quality close to full black because they can turn light on and off on their own.
Currently, a total of 19 TV manufacturers have entered the OLED TV market. Although only one panel is used by LG Display, this panel is supplied and manufactured by LG Display. They include South Korea's LG Electronics Inc., China's SkyWorks, Kongka, Changhong, Japan's Sony Corp., Toshiba Corp., Panasonic Corp. and Philips of Europe. Samsung Electronics Co., the world's No. 1 TV maker, has yet to sell OLED TVs.
